Food Review: Stranger Things Surfer Boy Pizza

I may be late to the party, but I have finally entered the Upside Down of the frozen pizza market. Wal Mart has restocked their shelves at various locations with Surfer Boy Pizza and I was able to get my hands on three of the four available styles.

Surfer Boy Pizza comes in pepperoni, multi-meat, supreme and pineapple jalapeno. I was able to secure all the styles except for the pepperoni. If I were to buy a frozen pizza, I would typically go for a standard pepperoni and cheese.

Front of Box

At the end of the day, frozen pizzas are just a convenient, usually lower cost means of having pizza for dinner. While there are some tasty frozen pizzas on the market, it’s not exactly fine dining. That leads me to reviews of each style that I tried.

Back of Box with Free cardboard cutout glasses

Jalapeno Pineapple: Not spicy which I like since I don’t do well with spicy but at the same time the jalapenos had no flavor. As someone who does enjoy pineapple on pizza (Don’t Judge Me) they helped bring a little more flavor to this pizza.

Meaty-Meat: The Pepperoni, ham, and sausage flavors are on point!

Supreme: In effort to not gorge myself in the same way Freddy Krueger killed Greta in Nightmare On Elm Street Part 5, I decided to save this one for a later time.

Pepperoni: Sold out when I made my purchase.

Meaty-Meat Pizza

Aside from the information listed above, what I found most lacking from these pizzas was the taste of the sauce. Like the jalapenos, the sauce was also lacking flavor. It tasted bland, almost like Spaghettio sauce. The crust had a nice crisp to it and overall, it was very filling.

Was it as good as the hype I had heard from friends, family and strangers? I don’t think so but everyone has different tastes so you might end up enjoying it. If you have tried Stranger Things Surfer Boy Pizza or plan to in the future, let me know what you think!

Camp Crystal Lake: The Musical?

Yes, you read that correctly. I recently discovered this upcoming musical, and I am very intrigued. After doing further research, I found this show is produced by Wolfbane Productions. Some of their past productions include Young Frankenstein, Stranger Things, Evil Dead & The Rocky Horror Picture Show.

Camp Crystal Lake: The Musical is their latest production and one I would love to go see if my schedule works out. I love the concept and wish it was one we see more of in the future at the musical theater level.

Synopsis (From Wolfbane’s Website):
“The Splatter Zone is back! Wolfbane pays homage to classic 80s slasher films with this original parody musical that takes elements from films like Friday the 13th, Nightmare on Elm Street, and others and combines them into one crazy theatrical experience! Join us in January for our New Year, New Works reading to witness how this gory, blood splattered show became the fully produced production you’ll see in August.”

PLEASE NOTE: This show is rated “R” for adult language, situations, and themes.

Camp Crystal Lake: The Musical will take center stage on two consecutive weekends. August 4, 5, and 6th and the following weekend on August 11, 12, & 13. The show will take place at the outdoor venue, Wolf Pac which is located at 618 Country Club Road in Appomattox, VA.

I’m really hoping I will be attend! For more information on the show or how to get tickets, you can visit the following website: Camp Crystal Lake The Musical – Live Performance — Wolfbane Productions

Horror Collectibles: 7″ Scale Action Figure – The Creep by NECA

I recently added a new piece to my horror collection. The Creep from Creepshow! As a fan of the movies and the tv series, it only made sense for me to pick this up. This figure includes a skull, lantern, comic book and interchangeable hand.

The Creep is sculpted with fine detail, bringing to life his “creepy” physical features. The accessories give you a lot to work with. The Creep holding a lantern in one hand and the Creepshow comic book in the other? Or how about swapping one of those out for the skull? Either way it makes for an awesome piece of horror art.

Director: Randy Falk
Sculpt & Tailoring: Thomas Gwyn
Fabrication: Roger Fernandez & Anthony Minichino
Paint: Jon Wardell & Geoffrey Trapp

More from NECAonline.com:

The iconic horror franchise is back for new tales of terror! Shudder’s new Creepshow TV series expands on the rich legacy of horror built by the original movies, and breathes new unlife into its mascot, The Creep.

Now in action figure form, The Creep stands over 7 inches tall and is fully posable, with over 25 points of articulation. The figure features synthetic hair and a fabric robe with wire armature so you can give it just the right positioning. The Creep also comes with lantern, skull and Creepshow comic book accessories.

Horror Character Analysis: Jason Voorhees

Jason Voorhees may be the single biggest reason I am a horror fan today. Friday the 13th is one of the first horror movies I remember watching as a child. I was intrigued by the mask killer largely due to him sharing the same first name as me, Jason.

Jason Voorhees is one of the most unique horror characters of all time. While he is a murderous villain and main antagonist of the Friday the 13th series, but does he also have an endearing side?

Horror fans can’t dismiss the fact that Jason had a fucked up childhood. His face was disfigured, making him the butt of jokes from other children his age. He was bullied and ultimately neglected by his peers when he drowned (or didn’t) in Camp Crystal Lake. Years later he witnessed his mother being decapitated by a camp counselor. Afterall, she was just seeking revenge for her sweet, sweet Jason.

These events lead to Jason becoming one of the most brutal murderers in horror film history. With each passing film, Jason became more powerful and his overall transformation from film to film has been a joy to watch.

Jason has evolved from disfigured faced child to sack head, to hockey mask, to deteriorating body, to demonic possession of humans, to even ultra-unstoppable Jason X. He has even went toe to toe with another horror icon, Freddy Krueger. Through it all Jason just keeps coming back, stronger and deadlier.

His means of killing are diverse. Machete, strangulation, suffocation, sleeping bag to tree, icepick, axe, spear, pitchfork, fireplace poker, hacksaw, harpoon, beheading with a punch, and SO many more.

Jason Voorhees is also quite nimble. Just when you think you have gotten away from him, POOF! There he is again. He is like the guy you don’t invite to your party but he shows up anyway.

Despite his brutal, murderous past, let’s be honest. I love Jason Voorhees. You love Jason Voorhees. He is a horror legend and like his character, his legend only grows stronger.

Horror Movie Review: Afflicted (2013)

Afflicted is a 2013 Canadian mock documentary/found footage film. The movie is directed and written by Derek Lee & Clif Prowse who also both star in the film.

This movie was recommended to me by a member of the horror community. I’m typically not a fan of found footage style films but the cinematography of this film was much more pleasant than most. The beginning has a documentary vibe to it which made it feel like I was watching an actual documentary. The film then transitioned into more of found footage style.

When someone recommends a movie to me, I tend to have higher expectations which may not be fair in my review. Despite that I did enjoy this movie as it had a few twists and turns I did not see coming. I respected the wishes of the member who recommended the film to me when they instructed me not to look up information on the film before watching. That ended up being a good move and is also a reason why I purposefully don’t get too specific with my movie reviews. If you are interested in this film and haven’t yet watched it, I would also suggest not doing too much research into it beforehand.

Horror Collectibles: The Twilight Zone Mystic Seer Springz Bobblehead

How awesome is this? The Mystic Seer bobblehead from the classic show, The Twilight Zone. This bobblehead was an exclusive item from Horror Block, a now defunct horror box subscription service.

This collectible is from the famous Twilight Zone episode “Nick of Time.” The episode stars the legendary William Shatner. The episode originally aired on November 18, 1960.

Horror Movie Review: Game of Death (2017)

Game of Death is a 2017 French horror film, directed by Sebastien Landry & Laurence Morais-Legace. The film stars Sam Earle, Victoria Diamond, Emelia Hellman & Catherine Saindon.

This movie actually ended up being much more entertaining than I expected. While I feel like the film missed some opportunities, I enjoyed it overall due to some great cinematic work. Some scenes are elevated with a poetic vibe that gave the film its own unique charm.
